Insomnia Cookies is a late-night bakery chain known for warm, freshly baked cookies, ice cream and delivery that runs well past midnight. Many bakeries sit near college campuses, but the brand has also moved into city neighborhoods, through partnerships with Philadelphia International Airport, and into arenas such as those of the Philadelphia Flyers, New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

The idea is simple: when a craving hits late at night, almost nothing else is baking. The company bakes its cookies throughout the day, so an Insomnia cookie is warm whether you order at 1 p.m. or 1 a.m. Delivery typically runs until 1 a.m. or later, and cookies also ship nationwide. Fans of the brand call themselves Insomniacs.

Who started Insomnia Cookies, and who owns it?

Seth Berkowitz founded Insomnia Cookies in 2003 as a junior at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and he is still its CEO. Tired of late-night pizza being the only delivery option, he spent about $150 on baking supplies and, for the first few months, baked and delivered every order himself while attending class.

Ownership has changed hands twice since then:

  • 2018: Krispy Kreme, financed by JAB Holding, bought a majority stake, reported as about 74.5% for roughly $139.5 million, at a $175 million enterprise value.
  • July 2024: Krispy Kreme sold its majority stake to Verlinvest and Mistral Equity Partners at a $350 million enterprise value, keeping about 34%.
  • June 2025: Krispy Kreme sold its remaining stake for $75 million.

Today Insomnia Cookies is privately held by the investment firms Verlinvest and Mistral Equity Partners, with Berkowitz still leading the company. It is headquartered in Philadelphia, and some references also list New York.

Insomnia Cookies menu: what you can order

The Insomnia Cookies menu centers on warm cookies, with about 17 classic flavors plus larger deluxe cookies, brownies, ice cream and cookie cakes. Offerings vary by bakery and rotate with limited-time flavors, so treat this as a guide to the Insomnia cookie menu rather than a price list.

CategoryWhat is on it
Classic cookiesChocolate Chunk, Double Chocolate Chunk, Classic with M&M’s, Snickerdoodle, Sugar, Peanut Butter Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, White Chocolate Macadamia
Deluxe cookiesTriple Chocolate, S’mores, Peanut Butter Cup, Salted Caramel; about double the size of a Classic
Vegan and gluten-freeVegan and gluten-free cookie options, which vary by bakery
BrowniesChocolate chip and loaded brownies, plus blondies and brookies
Ice creamCookies IN Ice Cream flavors by the scoop or pint, or on a warm cookie or brownie
Cookie’wichesIce cream sandwiched between two warm cookies, in Classic and Deluxe versions
Cookie cakesClassic or Deluxe flavors in several sizes, with optional toppings and an edible message
Extras6-, 9- and 12-packs of cookies, and milk

Searching for chocolate chip cookies near me? Chocolate Chunk is the closest match on the menu, and Insomnia’s own menu descriptions call it an Insomnia classic. If you want a bigger cookie, the Deluxe versions are about twice the size of a Classic.

Ice cream. The Cookies IN Ice Cream line launched in July 2022 and mixes baked cookies into the ice cream. Flavors include Cookies ‘N Dream, Cookie D’ough, Caramellionaire and Minterstellar, alongside classic Vanilla and Chocolate. Earlier lineups also included Dreamweaver ice cream, a purple s’mores-flavored scoop, so flavors come and go. The company says it served about 10 million scoops in 2025. If you are after ice cream near me, most Insomnia bakeries sell it, but confirm with your local bakery.

Birthday cookie cake. A birthday cookie cake can be ordered in several sizes, in Classic or Deluxe flavors, with an optional edible message. The Triple Threat version combines three Classic flavors.

Calories and nutrition. Insomnia Cookies calories differ by flavor and size, and a Deluxe is about twice the size of a Classic. For exact Insomnia Cookies nutrition and allergen details, check the official nutrition and allergen information on the brand’s website.

Insomnia Cookies locations, hours and delivery

Insomnia Cookies passed 350 bakeries worldwide in November 2025, across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. The Stamford, Connecticut opening in January 2026 was its 344th U.S. bakery, and a July 2026 report counted more than 360 in the U.S. The company opened 55 bakeries in 2025, plans more than 75 in 2026, and has a long-term goal of 1,800 worldwide.

Insomnia Cookies locations now reach well beyond campuses. Insomnia Cookies NYC bakeries include Williamsburg in Brooklyn, which marked the 350th opening. Insomnia Cookies Houston bakeries include Third Ward and the Heights, and Sugar Land opened in July 2026 as the brand’s 33rd Texas store.

Hours. Insomnia Cookies hours vary by bakery. Many open late morning or noon, run delivery until 1 a.m. or later, and stay open until 3 a.m. on busy nights. A common pattern is 1 a.m. Sunday to Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday to Saturday, as at the Houston Heights bakery. Because Insomnia hours can change, check your bakery’s page before you go.

Delivery. Insomnia Cookies delivery comes from the bakery’s own drivers and from delivery apps, and late-night delivery generally runs until 1 a.m. or later. Cookies also ship nationwide.

Prices, promo codes and rewards. Insomnia Cookies prices vary by bakery and by how you order, and third-party delivery menus set their own prices, so check your bakery’s Insomnia menu in the official app or website for exact prices. Insomnia Rewards is free to join. A general Insomnia Cookies promo code turns up only now and then; the more dependable savings are rewards offers and the free-delivery codes that come with new bakery openings. Treat any Insomnia Cookies coupon on a third-party site with care, since offers expire quickly.

History and the first Insomnia Cookies bakery

Insomnia Cookies began in 2003 in a University of Pennsylvania dorm room, and its first brick-and-mortar bakery opened in Syracuse, New York, in 2006. Some references also mention an earlier retail presence on the Penn campus, but Syracuse is the one most often cited as the first storefront.

National Cookie Day, PJ day, deals and careers

National Cookie Day falls on December 4 every year, and Insomnia treats it as its favorite day of the year. Wondering, is today national cookie day? It is only on December 4. In 2024, Insomnia Rewards members could claim one free Classic cookie and a $1 Deluxe cookie with no purchase necessary, and the brand added limited-time flavors. National cookie day deals change from year to year, so check the app in early December.

The annual PJ Party is the other big date. Every September, the closest thing to a PJ day for cookie fans, customers who arrive in pajamas get a free Classic cookie with no purchase necessary. The party began in 2019, and the eighth edition was scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026, across U.S. and Canadian bakeries. The company says it gave out about 67,000 free cookies at the previous year’s party. Along with new-bakery openings, which often come with a free Classic cookie for new Insomnia Rewards members, these events are the most common ways to get free Insomnia cookies.

Careers. Insomnia Cookies careers are listed at Careers.InsomniaCookies.com. New bakeries regularly post openings for part-time cookie crew members, delivery drivers and shift leaders, so Insomnia Cookies hiring is often tied to new bakery openings.

Insomnia Cookies is an American bakery chain known for freshly baked cookies, desserts and late-night delivery. It also offers pickup and nationwide shipping for eligible products.

Seth Berkowitz founded Insomnia Cookies in 2003 while studying at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Verlinvest and Mistral Equity Partners are the investment firms behind its current ownership. Krispy Kreme sold its remaining stake in June 2025. Seth Berkowitz remains CEO.

The company reported more than 360 U.S. locations in July 2026. Check its official locator for the latest store information.

Most bakeries operate from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays and 12 p.m. to 3 a.m. on weekends. Hours vary by location and season.

Delivery hours depend on the bakery’s operating schedule and delivery zone. Check the selected location’s ordering page for the latest cutoff time.

The official website states that delivery normally takes 20–35 minutes, although demand, weather and distance can cause delays.

Yes. The company allows customers to schedule delivery for later the same day or a future date, subject to available time slots.

Use the tracking link in your order confirmation email or the Cookie Tracker, where available, to follow your order.

Call the bakery as soon as possible. The company says it can cancel an order unless it has already left the bakery.

Yes, where available. For orders placed through DoorDash, Uber Eats or Grubhub, the company directs customers to the relevant third-party platform for support.

Yes. Eligible cookies and gift boxes can be ordered for shipping through the official website. Shipping products are different from local delivery, and availability depends on the destination and product.

The menu includes classic and deluxe cookies, brownies, cookie cakes, ice cream, Cookie’wiches and other desserts. The selection varies by location and season.

Chocolate Chunk and Double Chocolate Chunk are recognizable core varieties. Other flavors and limited-time offerings may vary, so avoid presenting a definitive current bestseller ranking without company data.

Deluxe Cookies are larger specialty cookies with indulgent flavors and additional ingredients or toppings. Check the current menu for available varieties.

A Cookie’wich is a dessert made with cookies and a filling, commonly ice cream. Available cookie and filling combinations depend on the menu.

Yes. Participating bakeries offer ice cream and dessert combinations, including cookies served with ice cream.

Prices vary by location, product and order method. General guideline is given above. However, after selecting a bakery or entering a delivery address the exact insomnia cookies menu prices can be checked.

Yes. Vegan varieties have been offered, but the exact selection can change. Review the current menu and ingredient information before ordering.

Yes. The company offers a Vegan & Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie. However, it is prepared in an environment where cross-contact with gluten can occur.

Insomnia Cookies is not an allergen-free bakery. Its official guidance warns about potential allergen cross-contact and states that gluten-free products cannot be guaranteed free of gluten exposure. People with food allergies or celiac disease should review the company’s guidance and consult an appropriate healthcare professional before consuming these products.

Insomnia Rewards is the company’s customer loyalty program. Members can earn points and receive eligible rewards through participating ordering channels. Check official site for current earning rates and redemption terms.

The company announced a promotion of two free classic cookies for new Insomnia Rewards members who signed up and made their first purchase in 2024. That historical offer should not be advertised as a guaranteed current benefit; check the current terms for active signup offers.

Yes. The company provides catering and bulk-order options. Available products, quantities, lead times and pricing depend on the order.

Check the official website for current gift card purchasing, redemption and balance-checking options. Confirm any applicable restrictions before buying or redeeming a card.
